Radlett Family GARDEN
A garden designed to fulfill the needs of a family
The garden was redesigned following a major renovation of the property. The
original garden was not meeting the needs of the family: the sloping site
made it difficult for the children to play and the patio was not large
enough to comfortably accomodate a table and chairs. There also needed to be
space set aside for a small greenhouse as the property owners are keen
gardeners.
The redesign included an ample patio, large enough to include different areas for dining and for sitting outside with a drink. Sandstone pavers and a 'rug' of setts help to define the distinct but complementary sections. The lawn area was levelled to accomodate a football pitch and broad steps down from the patio add elegance and allow for easy access.
Large planted beds soften the edges of the patio and are filled with sun-loving planting. A handsome purple beech hedge was planted along one boundary and Photinia 'Red Robin' trees provide screening along another, their crowns sitting above the line of the fence. The owners' beautiful potted Acer was replanted, and they are developing planting to enhance it.
