Mid Century Modern House Garden Design, Aldeburgh, Suffolk

A mid century modern house by the coast. The garden dated from the time the house was built with hard landscaping mainly in concrete, which had become very cracked and worn. The house and garden are on a slope, and the garden required re-contouring in some sections for aesthetic and functional reasons.

The redesign incorporates gabion walls filled with local stone, which link the house to its location. Larch copings and supports and a bespoke larch fence echo the larch cladding on the house. A wider driveway and a rethink of the area around the house improve the entrance area. Extensive re contouring of the site provides a more private seating area in the lower lawn area and greatly improves the look of the garden. Naturalistic, low maintenance planting includes grasses to link to the marsh landscape adjacent to the property. The next stage of the project is to develop a meadow area at the front of the house, further increasing the biodiversity of the site.
