Profile

The daughter of a civil engineer and an avid gardener, a lifelong interest in buildings and gardens of all shapes and sizes began in my youth. A history degree followed, and after a first career in Law I decided to change direction.

I undertook a thorough training in garden design and horticulture. Qualifications include a three year Diploma in Garden Design from Capel Manor Horticulture College, the RHS Level 2 Diploma in The Principles and Practice of Horticulture, and the RHS Level 3 Practical Certificate. Further studies in detailed garden construction followed at the Oxford College of Garden Design. And of course many years of practical gardening experience.

I won the ‘Best Student’ award on the Capel Manor Plants and Planting Design course and co designed the College’s gold medal winning entry to The Ideal Home Show. In 2015 I won a competition to redesign a public garden in the heart of the City of London.

I am a pre registered member of the Society of Garden Designers, the professional body which promotes excellent standards in garden design.

Vanessa's plan for refurbishing my front garden combined the best of what was already there with new plantings and border shapes I wouldn't have imagined myself. Her thoughtful consideration of colour, texture and space has somehow bound together the old with the new and created something that has 'lifted' it (and me). I couldn't be more pleased.
